We provide two preschool rooms; Junior preschool and Senior preschool. Generally children attend the Junior preschool from the age of 3 -4 and Senior preschool from 4-5.
Both preschool rooms encourage independence through the teaching of practical life skills at the child’s own pace.
Free play is an important part of the preschool day and allows space for the children to make sense of the world around them and to engage in quality interactions with their peers.
Our curriculum is play based and promotes Aistear’s themes of Exploring & Thinking, Identity & Belonging, Well-being and Communicating. These themes incorporate all of your child’s developmental needs/skills.
The curriculum also incorporates a balance of child led, guided and adult led activity. In order to ensure that learning is meaningful and relevant for each child, we build on the children’s own interests when creating our weekly/daily plans, taking every opportunity to create a learning experience.
Children’s creativity is fostered through dramatic/ role play, music and art. Creative activity helps to develop imagination.
Daily activities are provided for the children to develop literacy and mathematical skills. A greater emphasis is placed on these skills in Senior preschool in order for the children to be ready to go to ‘big school’.
Outside time is an important part of both preschool room’s day-to-day routine and we avail of our safe and secure outdoor space as much as possible throughout the day.
