What is play therapy?
Play Therapy is a form of therapy that uses the natural language of children, play, to help them to express their thoughts, feelings and experiences in a safe and confidential, non-judgemental environment. As adults, we often rely on words to communicate, however children find it easier to express complex emotions and navigate difficult situations through play. In play therapy, the therapist uses various play materials—such as toys, puppets, art, games, role-playing props, clay, and sand—to create a safe and supportive environment where children can explore their feelings and work through difficulties. The therapist observes and engages with the child during play, allowing the child to lead the session and express themselves. The aim is to help children develop emotional awareness, coping strategies, and problem-solving skills, enabling them to navigate life’s challenges more effectively.
