About Our Senior Toddler Room

For some, your child will be transitioning from our Junior Toddler Room, for others this is your child’s first time with us! We have a transition period for either situation. For our new friends,  we will initially invite you and your child in to meet the team in the Senior Toddler Room and to discuss any questions you may have. We will then organise for your child to
begin their settling in period which is usually over a period of two weeks and is always at a pace that best suits your child to ensure that they settle with ease.

For children transitioning from Junior Toddler's, they will be gradually moved from the Junior Toddler Room to the Senior Toddler Room to ensure a smooth transition for the child and to enable the child to start building a relationship with the early years practitioners in the Senior Toddler Room. When your child is due to move to the Senior Toddler Room, you will be invited in to the creche to meet the team in the Senior Toddler Room, visit the room and ask any questions that you may have.

Our highly experienced team supports each child to develop a happy disposition, positive self-esteem and an engaged attitude to learning and socialising within a safe and nurturing environment.

routine

At this age, a programme is introduced creating a little more structure to their daily routine, which prepares them for the Pre-school sessions.  The Routine also allows for flexibility to meet the needs of each individual child needs. The children engage in large group time, small group time, choice play, outdoor play and creative activities, encouraging their natural curiosity and imagination.

Curriculum

The curriculum is play based and promotes Aistear’s themes of Exploring & Thinking, Identity & Belonging, Well-being and Communicating. These themes incorporate all of your child’s developmental needs. We aim to promote a fun and playful environment, where the children learning is based on their emerging interests. The environment is designed to facilitate motor skill development as well as social skills through center structured play. It is at this age that your child begins to enjoy interacting with other children. Sharing, taking turns and caring for each other is all part of senior toddlers.

  • We believe it is important to support each child to learn about the world around them through play. At this developmental stage your child is becoming increasingly curious about their environment. A range of linguistic, physical, cognitive, social and emotional learning experiences are provided to each child in order to fulfil their enthusiasm to learn and explore.
  • Daily experiences are provided that allow the children to practice fine motor skills, hand to eye coordination, hand and full body movement. Experiences that promote skills in an environment rich in sounds, sight and consistent exposure to spoken language are also provided to the children on a daily basis.
  • Outside time is an important part of the junior toddler room’s day-to-day routine and we avail of yoor safe and secure outdoor space as much as possible throughout the day.
  • We feel that it is never to early to foster independence skills in a child as it is good for your child’s confidence and gives them a sense of self achievement. The children are given support to practice life skills such as feeding and self-care on a daily basis.
  • In the junior toddler room your child will develop a strong sense of identity and belonging as the room is child-centered and has a homely atmosphere.
  • Communication between the childcare professionals and junior toddlers is something which we feel is of the utmost importance, we believe that it helps to build trusting relationships and also helps the children to develop linguistic and communication skills.
