About Our Baby Room
This may be your first time leaving your child for longer periods of time or perhaps it is your child's first time attending childcare. Either way, we want to make this transition period as comfortable and happy a time as possible for you and for your child. We will initially invite you and your child in to meet the team in the Junior Toddler Room and to discuss any questions you may have. We will then organise for your child to begin their settling in period which is usually over a period of two weeks and is always at a pace that best suits your child to ensure that they settle with ease.
routine
We feel that predictable routine is important for this age group as it creates a sense of security and allows your child to grow in confidence and independence. However, the routine is flexible to meet the needs of each individual child.
Curriculum
We believe it is important to support each child to learn about the world around them through play. At this developmental stage your child is becoming increasingly curious about their environment.
Learning experiences based on the four themes of Aistear; Well-being, Communication, Identity & Belonging, Exploring & Thinking, are provided to each child in order to fulfill their enthusiasm to learn and explore.
Daily experiences are provided that allow the children to develop their fine motor skills, hand to eye coordination and explore a sensory rich environment. Experiences that promote skills in an environment rich in sounds, sight and consistent exposure to spoken language are also provided to the children on a daily basis. Outside time is an important part of the junior toddler room’s day-to-day routine and we avail of your safe and secure outdoor space as much as possible throughout the day.

Fostering Independance
We feel that it is never to early to foster independence skills in a child as it is good for your child’s confidence and gives them a sense of self achievement. The children are given support to practice life skills such as feeding and self-care on a daily basis.
Rest & Relaxation
At this age, the children sleep in their own cot in our sleep room. We believe it is important that the child sleeps in the same cot every day to help establish a home from home environment. The children change in to their pyjamas, the lights are dimmed and soft music is played to help the children to relax. Each child is soothed to sleep by the early years practitioners. The children are closely monitored while they are sleeping.
